No Rain Can Stop the Fun at the Adult Grand Prix

So many things are out of our control as tennis players, and amongst them is the weather. This came into play during the Adult Grand Prix that took place at the Gold River Racquet Club on November 4-5, which hosted a total of 214 players.

With most of Saturday being rained out, players didn’t get to go on court until 2 p.m., but most of them were kind enough to help out by squeeging the courts and “many players appreciated the good communication during the rain delay,” said Michelle Wilson, USTA NorCal Adult Tournaments Coordinator. “The event went extremely well considering the rain delay from the first Saturday and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience. We still enjoyed a great weekend of tennis with plenty of close matches and great sportsmanship.”

The action happened off the court as well with the first combined NTRP and Senior, Open and Family Award ceremony. To keep the spirit of making the Adult Grand Prix a big end-of-the-year celebration for the players, USTA NorCal combined both award ceremonies into one. Raffle prizes, a buffet, and drinks were all part of a great night that took place November 4, at the Marriott Rancho Cordova, allowing players to renew friendships and make new ones. In total, 84 awards were handed out that night. It was great to see all the families and friends there to support the award winners and players on and off the courts.

It was back to business the next day with the weather cooperating, making it a perfect day for tennis. Due to the rain however, 12 matches couldn’t be played during the first weekend, so they were rescheduled for Saturday, November 11. In the end, all of the NTRP categories, and age categories ranging from Open to 80’s were played.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists of the 2017 Adult Grand Prix and thank you to all the players who participated all year long. USTA NorCal congratulates all the award recipients who were honored during the award ceremony.

A special thank you to Gold River Racquet Club for hosting the event and Tennis Warehouse.
