Two Titles, One Team!
The weather might have taken center stage for a couple of hours, but it was soon tennis that took over the courts of Broadstone Racquet Club in Folsom, CA, on November 17-18, during the CIF/USTA Regional Girls Tennis Championship.
After a two and a half hour delay, it was finally time to hit the courts! In the first round, Los Gatos prevailed over Red Bluff 7-0, St. Francis Sacramento overcame Dougherty Valley 4-3, while St. Francis Mountain View cruised against Del Oro 6-1, and Monte Vista took the last semifinal spot against Lowell 6-1.
The semifinals took place under the lights due to the rain delay, making it for a very entertaining night. St. Francis Mountain View had to battle against Monte Vista to punch their tickets for the final round the next day. After St. Francis Mountain View took an early 3-1 lead, Monte Vista came back but couldn’t close it out, as St. Francis Mountain View squeezed in one last point to win a close 4-3 contest. In the second semifinal which played under the lights, Los Gatos had an easier time against St. Francis Sacramento with a 5-2 victory.
Then, it was finals day! An exact rematch of the Section Championships that took place a few weeks earlier, Los Gatos had beaten St. Francis Mountain View 5-2. The outcome might have been the same with Los Gatos winning, but the match was even closer with a 4-3 overall score.
Congratulations Los Gatos on being the CIF/USTA Regional Girls Tennis Champions! Thank you to all the teams for participating and to everybody who helped put on this event.
